ITworx was approached by The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) to assist their OurAuto team to migrate and upgrade over 700 of their client’s DNN websites. It was always understood that upgrading that many DNN sites would be a challenge, however this was exacerbated by the tight 3-month timeframe.
We worked with Managed.com, a leading DNN hosting company based in Nebraska USA. We audited each site and provided lists of potential issues with upgrade. Managed.com then ran through the upgrade process after which we performed more QA and troubleshooting of issues.
To create the necessary discipline required to run such a large project where small inefficiencies could blow project out by weeks, we created very defined processes and assembled a small team of DNN developers working solely on either of the following tasks:
· Initial pre-migration site audits
· Migration troubleshooting
· Pre-upgrade site audits
· Post upgrade troubleshooting / development
We built up a wiki throughout the upgrade process, which allowed our team to learn from mistakes and to minimise the amount of research time. This wiki was used by our developers to great effect.
The benefits to the VACC were that they were able to migrate and upgrade their client sites within the initial budget and within the very tight timeframe they set us. This meant a big saving in hosting costs for the VACC.
The secondary benefit was that all their client DNN sites were now running the latest and most secure version of DNN.
